About the event
The word "ceilidh" originates from the Gaelic term meaning "gathering" or "visit." Scottish cèilidhs have gained popularity not just in Scotland but globally. They provide a wonderful opportunity for individuals to immerse themselves in Scottish culture, engage with others, and enjoy the pleasure of traditional music and dance.
What Happens at a typical Cèilidh?
Dancing:
Cèilidh dancing is a key component of the event. It typically includes traditional Scottish dances like the Dashing White Sergeant, Strip the Willow, and the Gay Gordons. These dances are usually performed in groups with a caller who guides the participants through the steps. Known for being lively and fun, Cèilidh dancing is suitable for people of all ages and skill levels.
Unfortunately, we don't have a caller here in Wilmington, so our Cèilidhs haven't included organized dancing (but we're interested in doing so!).
